Is there any other brush that would work well (maybe not as well, but useable) that is less expensive. Sometimes videos don't represent accurate colors. Was that water you started with? Was your canvas prepared in any way? What kind of softening brush are you using?

I'm an Australian living near Gallipoli in Turkey, I am forever painting scenes of the battlefield, memorials, landscapes, shipwrecks etc. One thing that frustrates me is painting headstones and the lettering on them. I try and try and just end up with bloody thick paint on paper. Any advice would be appreciated, or maybe if you know of any youtube link that helps me. Thanks
