  1. I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but this video has just saved a painting from being scrapped off the canvas. Those medium values are absolutely critical. You don't realise HOW critical until you put them in.

Hello got a great question I'd love some help from you if your interested having trouble getting away from the cartoon still look when I am painting a picture of something for instance iv painted a picture for my daughter the character Gru from Despicable Me like to try painting it to look more realistic not perfect but more realistic I'm a self taught artist I know that I can do this just need someone to Mentor from see what you can come up with love to see what your approach is thanks shane

  3. Wow, you hit the nail on the head–again. I tend to be somewhat technical-thinking (former math guy), so breaking it down logically for us really makes this easier. As you say, you observe rocks, then paint them, not from theory; but having a 'construct' to frame things with sure helps. Thank you, Dianne … this student really appreciates your work here for us.
