I appreciate your initiative. However, for me, it's hard to believe it to be a "first-class or lesson 1". I would advise you to teach how to get the colors you're using and to give a brief on the technique.
If you wonder why your work isnt the same, be aware that some colors are transparent and will not work as highlights easily. Check your paints if they are opaque or transparent.
Are you leeting your paint to dry between colors? If i am trying to raise up the color, it will blend automatically and this is not correct. Am i missing someting?

I tried to copy. It was looking good until I tried to darken the top
